There are so many things I want to see and do and, if I could, I’d do them all now. I’ll admit, they are mostly things I want us to do. If it were up to Lee then I’m sure we’d just follow the snow around the globe.

Travelling with a child is a much slower process so, for parents, we can only dream of all the places we’d like to visit and things we’d like to experience. I’m keeping a list in the hopes that these dreams become a reality sooner rather than later. I’m sure we’ll check a few of these things off over the next year or two but no doubt it will grow even longer the more we travel.

What’s on your travel wishlist / bucket-list?

I’d be interested to know what other travelling families have on their to-do list. Anything kid-specific? Mine isn’t influenced in any way by Reuben, I’m sure if he could speak he’d inform us that he’d like to go to Sesame Street. Once kids can speak and vocalize thoughts do their wishes impact where your family chooses to travel?

Here’s what’s on our list:

  • Visit every state in the US (50)
  • Visit every province & territory in Canada (10)
  • Visit every province in Thailand (76)
  • Travel the Trans-Siberian or Trans-Mongolian Railway or both
  • Overland through the ‘Stans
  • Roadtrip through the Southern States of the USA
  • Live in France (Paris and somewhere in the countryside or coast) and learn to speak better French (Lee and I both have a reasonable level of textbook French)
  • Live in Italy and learn to speak Italian
  • Live in Thailand and learn to speak some Thai
  • Live in New York
  • Learn to speak Spanish
  • Learn something new in each place we live – a new cuisine, dance, martial art, sport, photography (though doesn’t have to be related to the place we’re in)
  • Learn to ski and snowboard (That’s for me and Reuben)
  • Study Kung Fu in China (Lee, naturally)
  • Travel in Iran
  • Travel in India
  • Travel in China
  • Visit Uluru
  • Visit Machu Pichu
  • Experience Songkran in Thailand
  • Experience Tet in Vietnam
  • Experience Chinese New Year in China
