I’ve been blogging away here for two weeks now. I have yet to write anything about where we are now. Why?

Because it’s raining. It’s been raining for two weeks.

Two weeks of blogging, two weeks of nothing but rain. This is supposed to be the Sunshine Coast of Australia yet we only had three days of pure and beautiful sunshine when we first arrived and every day since it’s been overcast, muggy and pouring down, at length, several times a day. It’s really getting on my nerves.

The beauty of the Australian lifestyle is spending most of our days in the great outdoors. There are so many beautiful Sunshine Coast beaches. That’s just not happening for us at the moment. We try and get to the playground every day but our walk there often gets thwarted by the rain. Or we get there and all the playground equipment is soaking wet. Or we get there, play for five minutes and then it starts chucking down and Lee has to collect us in the car.

There are a few rainy day activities in the area but most of them are out of our age or price range. It would cost us A$66 to go to Underwater World and a whopping A$118 to go to Australia Zoo. There are family movies once a week but, at 10.30am, they always fall at nap time.

So, most days our activities are reduced to:

  • Going to the supermarket and running up and down the ramp a few times.
  • Going to the mall for trips up and down the escalators and turns on the mechanical rides.
  • Sitting in Starbucks and enjoying a chai latte, babycino and a gingerbread man.
  • TiVOing and watching episode after episode of Sesame Street.

What else can you do with a toddler when it’s raining on a beach holiday? I’m open to any suggestions.
